(1) LETTER WRITING
No 3 Iwo Road,
Alakia Layout,
Ibadan, Oyo state.
29th September, 2018
Dear Sister Sharon,
How are you doing today? I hope you and your family are doing fine. I specially want to thank you for the role you have being playing to ensure my success in life. May Almighty God bless you and your family abundantly. The most appreciated is the new job you just secured for me in Ekiti State, I can’t thank you enough. However, I write to inform you that I have been there and I have resolved not to take the job.
I received my appointment letter and to my greatest surprise, the salary is too poor. I really do not know I can cope with N30,000.00 monthly, considering my distance from home, and the state of the economy. My current monthly pay where I currently work is N25,000, but I am closer to my family.
Secondly, I really disliked the environment. I never knew Ado-Ekiti, which is a state capital could be so poor and impoverished. I could hear more Keating of goats than human sounds. The only church service I attended there is unbelievable. Everything was done in Yoruba language. Damn!
Sister Sharon, I do not mean to disappoint you, I think I won’t enjoy staying and working under such environment where there is not social life. Please know that the low pay is the major repellant there. I’d rather manage this job I currently do and wait till fortune smiles my way again.
Thank you once again for your concerns and effort and may Almighty God bless you. My regard to your husband and kids.
Your Lovely Brother,
James (Use your name instead)

The putrid smell was over whelming. A stench like no other wafted through my nose. It was hideous. I was gaging, coughing and spluttering, trying to breathe in fresh air but to no avail. My pet cactus was withering in front of my very eyes. I used the last of my energy to see were the odour was coming from. I was shocked. My feet were frozen to the ground. I couldn’t move. A monstrosity, hairy, lumpy, disgusting, oaf of a mouse stood in the corner of my bedroom. Stomp!!! Crash!!! Wallop!!! The mouse carelessly crushed toy after toy as it headed towards me. I closed my eyes ready for death
A wicked squeaky tone came from the mouse, “You may pass your bedroom door but if you have ever told a lie, you must die.” I stood panic-stricken. I had once told a little white lie, would this mean I was doomed. The thought whizzed around my petrified mind. I was speechless. The agitated mouse raised his eyebrow and growled, “I will ask you one simple question. Have you ever lied?” I opened my mouth to protest but quickly thought the better of it. I changed my foolish thoughts. I promptly shouted NO! but then regretted my impulsive actions. A shiver ran down my spine. Was that the best move????
The mouse bared its fangs. Its claws scraped on the rusty door hinges. I could clearly see what he was thinking. How should he die?!?!? I knew my lighting reactions had doomed me!!! I felt pity and shame deep in my heart. The mouse began to scratch its chin. His thoughts were deep in progress. I clenched my teeth determined not to let the fuming mouse see my fear. I looked deep into the mouse’s eyes. They were sparkling with evilness. He knew a meal was waiting.
I just wish I had owned up to Dad about stealing the sugar. The temptation was completely irresistible as my sweet smelling fingers clawed in and out of the jar. If only I could rewind time and tell the truth this time. That way the wicked mouse would not be scampering in my room foraging for the microscopic grains of sugar I had accidentally dropped in my guilty rampage. I lay cuddled up in the corner of my room sobbing, clinging tightly to my teddy bear. Cries of help to Dad were left with empty responses. The headphones were glued to his ears while his eyes stared mesmerised by the flickering of the television screen. The warm sensation of sweet sugar crystals lingered around on my taste buds but quickly vanished as guilt overpowered my ever sense.
I had to confess the truth regardless of the consequences that lay ahead. I silently crept towards my open door, tiptoeing to the gaping space. I was just at the EXIT to my foul smelling bedroom, when a gush of wind slammed the door shut. Luck really wasn’t falling my way. Vicious fangs with over loading poison filled my blood stream. Claws scraped vigorously. It was agonising, my tender skin slowly being destroyed. I had never experienced such excruciating pain in all my life. Blood splattered everywhere but only one thought whizzed through my head. I wished I had been brave and told the complete and utter truth. Razor sharp blade like teeth munched away at my tender flesh. Screams ran through my entire body. Its eyes were savage for blood. Two long incisors scraped the blood he was longing to drink. A tail whipped into my fragile back. High pitch yells for mercy bounced of my bed room walls. It was the slowest agonising death one could ever experience. My body was crumbling away as I muttered my final words. If only I had told the truth
